According to a history compiled by the late Kenneth Norcross, an Orion historian and charter Lions member, “Orion was growing rapidly and with growth comes problems of community welfare. Several community leaders felt that an organization such as a Lions Club would be a big factor in creating interest in civic affairs and in helping Orion grow into the kind of community that would best serve the needs of its population.”
